The Crescent Lake – unique lake in the desert!
The Echoing-Sand Mountain, for many Chinese well known as Mingsha Mountain, is celebrated for the sound of the moving sand. In 1994 it was acclaimed as the national key scenic spot. You may wonder why the sand makes these different sounds.
Mogao Grottoes: The traveler finds the Mogao Caves, a shrine of Buddhist arttreasures, on the eastern slope of Mingsha Shan (Mount Echoing Sand). A networkof plank reinforced roads plying north to south 1600 meters (5, 249 feet) longlead to the cave openings, which are stacked five stories high some reaching up to 50 meters (164 feet). By the way, Mogao means high up in the desert. The history of the Great Wall issaid to start when seven powerful states appeared at the same time. In order to defend themselves, they all built walls and stationed troops on the borders. At that time, the total length of the wall had already reached 3,107 miles,belonging to different states.

Day 1
You will catch your flight to Xining, we will meet you at 12:00 at the airport exit and bring you to visit Ta’er monastery (Kumbum Monastery), the most populous monks outside of Tibet. Inside the monastery, apart from magnificent Buddha stupas and wall paintings, prayer wheels are also the must-see spot. The whole monastery is surrounded by wheels, walk along the corridor, rotate the wheels and pray for chasing away the troubles.
Day 2
Catch a morning train to Zhangye. Today’s journey will begin from visiting unique Mati Temple built in Jin Dynasty. Stay in Zhangye
Day 3
Visit the Giant Buddha Temple, which is the important place of the Silk Road. Midway in the HexiCorridor along the Silk Road lies the historic city of Zhangye, the center piece of which is the mysterious Giant Buddha Temple. In the afternoon visit Pingshanhu canyon for impressive scenery.

Day 4
After breakfast visit Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park, the Rainbow mountains. Ribbons of reds, orange and yellow slices through the rocks create a rainbow vista contained only by the contours of the jagged mountain peaks. After the visiting, we will travel to next stop Jiayuguan for overnight stay.
Day 5
This morning we will visit Jiayuguan pass. This Ming Dynasty fort guards the strategic Jiayuguan pass, at the western end of the Great Wall – this was the last section built by the Ming Dynasty. After that, you will explore the Great Wall Museum, which was opened to the public in October 1989 and it is the first one to exhibit the Great Wall culture in a comprehensive and systematic way. Then transfer to next stop Dunhuang. Upon arrival, enjoy awalking tour at the Shazhou Night Market, the most bustling place of Dunhuang at night, taste the local cuisine and buy some souvenirs for your family and friends.
Day 6
TThis morning we will visit Mogao Grottoes, also known as the Thousand Buddha Grottoes, UNESCO World Heritage site. .The professional guide from the Mogao will bring you to 8 grottoes with their special torch for you to have clear view of the mural sand paintings. (Note: No photos and Video in the caves). The visiting time is around 4 hrs including a movie. In the afternoon we will head up to Echoing Sand Mountain&Crescent Lake. When there is wild wind, the sands will be blown up and make a loud sound, while the sound sounds like being produced by some ancient musical instrument when blown by breeze. The Crescent Lake has been in existence for hundreds of years without ever being buried by the sand. Riding the camel as the Silk Road Caravan in the vast desert is highly recommended (approximately 40mins). Please bring your sunglasses and mask to keep out the dust. Optional: ATV car riding; camel riding.
