The Echoing-Sand Mountain, for many Chinese well known as Mingsha Mountain, is celebrated for the sound of the moving sand. In 1994 it was acclaimed as the national key scenic spot. You may wonder why the sand makes these different sounds.

Day 1: January 24
Take the morning flight to Lanzhou. Our driver will pick you up and transfer to the hotel for rest, tomorrow you will start you great silk road tour!
Day 2: January 25
In the morning we will drive to Liujiaxia Reservoir, we will take a speedboat to Binglingsi Thousand Buddha Caves. On the way, you will see the green water connecting to the yellow water while the blue sky connects to the yellow earth. Perhaps this can only be experienced in Liujiaxia. Upon arrival, visit the Binglingsi Thousand Buddha Caves, stretching for 200 meters. They were built between the 3rd and 18th centuries. In the afternoon drive back to downtown and transfer to Yellow River’s Mother Statue, explore the ancient history and culture of Gansu Province.
Day 3: January 26
Today the tour will begin from the Baita Mountain Park, one of the symbols of Lanzhou city. The White Pagoda and the iron bridge on the Yellow River constitute a magnificent picture. You can also see whole Lanzhou from here. Visit Gansu Museum, it will provide you with a unique and memorable experience.
In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the train station and catch the express train to Zhangye. D2757(16:20-20:37)
Day 4: January 27
After breakfast visit Giant Buddha Temple, which is the important place of the Silk Road. It is the largest architectural relic in Gansu Province of the Western Xia (1038-1227) period. You will see the largest and well-preserved reclining Buddha in this temple.
Then we will drive all the way to our next stop Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park, the Rainbow mountains. Ribbons of reds, orange and yellow slices through the rocks create a rainbow vista contained only by the contours of the jagged mountain peaks. Drive to Jiayuguan afterwards.
Day 5: January 28
Full day sightseeing in Jiayuguan, we will climb the Jiayuguan pass in the morning, a strategic pass at the western end of the Great Wall–this was the last section built by the Ming Dynasty. Visit the Great Wall Museum, the first one to exhibit the Great Wall culture in a comprehensive and systematic way. (There are many steps from one tower to the other, please consider if you are able to walk and climb for 2hrs) Next, travel to the Weijin Tombs, which are ancient tombs of brick paintings dating back to 265-420 AD. Drive to Dunhuang afterwards.
Day 6: January 29
This morning we will visit Mogao Grottoes, also known as the Thousand Buddha Grottoes, UNESCO World Heritage site. .The professional guide from the Mogao will bring you to 8 grottoes with their special torch for you to have clear view of the mural sand paintings. （Note: No photos and Video in the caves). The visiting time is around 4 hrs including a movie.
Afterwards we will head up to Echoing Sand Mountain&Crescent Lake. When there is wild wind, the sands will be blown up and make a loud sound, while the sound sounds like being produced by some ancient musical instrument when blown by breeze. The Crescent Lake has been in existence for hundreds of years without ever being buried by the sand. Riding the camel as the Silk Road Caravan in the vast desert is highly recommended (approximately 40mins). Please bring your sunglasses and mask to keep out the dust.
Day 7: January 30
Transfer to Dunhuang airport, see you next time!
