Mt Everest

 

 

 

With a height of 8,840 meters above sea level, Mt Everest is absolutely the highest mountain of the world. The mountain, which is part of the Himalaya range in Asia, is located on the border between Sagarmatha Zone, Nepal, and Tibet, China.

The optimum weather to visit Mt. Everest is from April to June, a golden period for mountaineers.

Everest has claimed 210 lives, including eight who perished during a 1996 storm high on the mountain. Conditions are so difficult in the death zone that most corpses have been left where they fell. Some of them are visible from standard climbing routes.

 

 

 

 

Mt Qogir (K2 Peak)

 

 

 

Mt. Qogir is the second highest mountain on earth, also known as K2, Savage Mountain, Mountaineer’s Mountain, Mount Godwin-Austen or Chogori. Located on the Pakistan-Chinese border, it has an elevation of 28,253 feet (8,612 meters) and a prominence of 13,179 feet (4,017 meters). It is located in the Karakoram Range. The name K2 was given in 1852 by British surveyor T.G.

Montgomerie with “K” designating the Karakoram Range and “2” since it was the second peak listed.

 

 

 

 

Nancha Barwa

 

 

 

Namcha Barwa, or Namjagbarwa, is a legendary mountain with a height of 7,785 meters above sea level. The mountain is in an isolated part of southeastern Tibet rarely visited by outsiders. The maximal depth of the canyon varies according to the different sources and methods of measurement, but is generally given at around 5300m. Namcha Barwa is located in the eastern part of Tibet (Nyingchi / Nyingtri Prefecture).

 

 

 

 

Mt Gongga (Minya Konka)

 

 

 

Mt. Gongga, also known as Minya Konka, is the highest mountain in Sichuan Province with a peak of 7,556 meters, which located on the eastern margin of Tibet-Qinghai Plateau.

In the scenic area, there are more than ten plateau lakes, including Mugecuo, Wuxuhai, Renzhonghai and Bawanghai. Some of them are at the foot of glaciers and some are surrounded by forests, all of which keep their original natural features. Mount Gongga is also a famous place for climber and explorers.

 

 

 

 

Kunlun Mountains (Buka Daban)

 

 

 

The range has about 200 peaks over 6000 meters and those are scattered all along the range. The highest are located in the most western extension, which sometimes goes under the name Kongur Shan. Kunlun is all situated in China, but the western part is very close to the borders of Tajikistan. This part is sometimes included in the Pamir mountain range, but nowadays the general consensus is it belongs to Kunlun proper.

 

 

 

 

Meili Snow Mountain (Kawa Garbo)

 

 

 

With a height of 6,740 meters, Kawa Garbo or Khawa Karpo is the highest peak of Meili Snow Mountain, among the 13 main peaks.

Meili Snow Mountains lie approximately 20 km west of Deqin in Yunnan Province. The mountain range exntends in the norn-south direction and form the natural border between Tibet and Yunnan.

 

 

 

 

 

Mt Kailash

 

 

 

A great mass of black rock soaring to over 22,000 feet, Mt. Kailash has the unique distinction of being the world’s most venerated holy place at the same time that it is the least visited. Mount Kailash as one of the ten mountains in China is located in Burang County, in the far southwestern Tibet.

With an elevation of 6,656 meters, Mount Kailash meaning “mountain of God” in Tibetan.

 

 

 

 

 

Qilian Mountains (Tuanjie Peak)

 

 

 

 

With an altitude of 6,644 meters above sea level, the Tuanjie Peak is the highest point of Qilian Mountains.

Qinling Mountains span over 1,500 km long, and ten to 200,000 or 300,000 km wide from south to north. They are majestic and grandiose. Qinling Mountains, in the narrow sense, refer to the middle section of the Qinling Range, a portion of the every mountain in central Shaanxi province.

 

 

 

 

Mt Taibai (Baxian Tai)

 

 

 

Mt Taibai is a mountain located on the border between Mei, Taibai and Zhouzhi counties in the south west of Shaanxi Province, China.

The mount’s highest point, Baxian Tower, rises to a height of 3,750 m and is the tallest in the Qinling Range, as well as the watershed between the Han River and Wei River.

Mount Taibai is also the highest mountain in Eastern China.

 

 

 

 

Helan Mountains (O’bao Geda)

 

 

 

 

Helan Mountains located in the middle part between the Yinchuan Plain and the Inner Mongolia Prairie. About 135 kinds of animals can be found in Helan Mountains; among which, 14 rare animals are protected by the state. Helan Mountains is an isolated desert mountain range forming the border of Inner Mongolia’s Alxa League and Ningxia. The main peak O’bao Geda, with a height of 3,556 meters, is the highest point of both provinces.
