Where is Qiandao lake ?
The lake is in Zheijiang Province, just a 5-6 hour drive from Shanghai.
The things you need to know
Qiandao lake is a huge reservoir covering anarea of 580 square kilometers on the upper reaches of Xin’an Riverr, 160km from Hangzhou and Huangshan Moutain. It is an artificial lake formed as a result of being a reservoir for constructing Xin’an River Water Power Plant in 1959.
There are over 1,000 large islands in the lake and a few thousand smaller ones. No wonder, then, that the Chinese name «Qiandao Hu» translates as one thousand island lake.
Thousand Island lake is currently the largest forest park in China. It has been awarded many titles and received favorable comments from tourists both at home and abroad.
Qiandao lake is also a delightful lake with many activities including enjoying the natural scenery and local culture. There is also an abundance of wildlife in the area, both on land and in the water.
What to do there
The area offers a lot of exciting activities such as kayaking, cycling, rafting, swimming, motorboats rentals and more. It is an ideal place for watersports lovers!
How to go there from Shanghai ?
1st option : Take high speed train from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to Hangzhou East Railway Station, then take a regular bus to reach there. The bus takes around 4 hours.
2nd option : Take a direct bus from Shanghai South Long Distance Bus Station. It departs at 14 :25. Ticket price is CNY 121 and duration is around 5-6 hours.
