Chinese New Year: where you shouldn’t travel

Chinese New Year: where you shouldn’t travel

Chinese New Year in China is a very important holiday time: family members travel home from far, get together and enjoy festivities. However, many Chinese people use this time to travel around China. In fact, last year Chinese people took  2.9 billion trips on these days. And if you plan to travel too, you really need to know where to go unless you want to find yourself like here:

Ouch!

Where NOT to go during the Chinese New year:

1. Yellow mountains, Anhui

Yellow mountains or Huangshan is the number 1 tourist destination in China. No wonder people from all the country as well as tourists coming from abroad want to see these gorgeous mountains. But during the National holiday (like on any other public holiday) all you are going to see is PEOPLE, millions of people around you (if you are lucky to get your entrance ticket). By the way, the expression “People mountain, people sea” comes from Huangshan!

2. Beijing and Great Wall

You got to see Beijing and Great Wall at least once while you in China! Some Chinese people have to travel from really far away and the Chinese New Year and the National holiday are the only long holiday time they have. The Forbidden city entrance tickets get sold out in the first hour when the cashier opens. You won’t get them unless you buy them online in advance. And on the Great Wall you’ll have to move together with crowd…

3. The Purple mountain, Nanjing

Chinese people love to tribute their ancestors in their hollidays as a trandition. Partents will take their children to pay respect to their first president Sun Yat-sen. This great man is not just a doctor but that was how Chinese people called him, he also saved Chinese souls after years of wars and proverty.

After going to Sun Yat-sen memorial hall people would like to go to Confucious temple, which already became a market for stinky tofu and gimmciks.

4. West lake, Hangzhou

Hangzhou is well known for its beauty and leasure. The most beautiful lake in East side of China attracts thousands of tourists every year. Take a nice walk on the bank of West lake during the Chinese new year and if you are lucky enough you may run into the president of Alibaba from thousands of people!

5. Zhangjiajie

Thanks to the movie Avatar, Zhangjiajie has become one of the most famous destination for the Chinese and foreigners. The chance to see the blue people is 0 when millions of tourists swarm to the mountain top.

6. Chengdu – Leshan buddha and Mt. Emei

Chengdu is supposed to be one of the most relaxing cities in China, but can you feel it when you visit Leshan buddha? Waiting for 2 hours to get close to the buddha is common during the spring fesvtival and then you will spend another hour to move from budda’s left shoulder to the right one.

After Leshan buddha you will have to visit Emei mountain and play with monkies or be played!

7. Jiu zhai gou in Sichuan

Sichuan has always been the most popular attraction among the tourists. Don’t get anxiety attack when you hear the hundreds of speakers of tour guides are working at the same time.

8. The Bund of Shanghai

9. Hainan beach

The only place you can go swimming in the spring festival in China. You will be amazed by the density of swimmers in the shallow shore while they are in the swimming rings.

10. Xi’an terracota warriors

If you want to see terracota warriors in Xi’an during the spring festival, you’ll have to become a warrior yourself to be able to push yourself amoung thousands of tourists!
